British F3 champion Linus Lundqvist joins Euroformula Open

20.03.2019

Linus Lundqvist will drive for Double R Racing for a third successive season as he makes his full-time continental racing debut in Euroformula Open this year.

The 19-year-old Swede was a champion in karts and cars in his home country before joining Double R in British Formula 4 in 2017. He won five times, and added a further seven wins last year when he won the BRDC British Formula 3 title with the team.

Since then he had made cameo appearance in sportscars, including racing a Lamborghini in the Daytona 24 Hours, and won in the 2019 Euroformula Winter Series with Campos Racing. He’ll be returning to Double R for the full season though.

“I’m really excited to have this programme in place and to continue working with Double R for another year,” said Lundqvist. “We have formed a strong relationship over the last two years and managed to pull off a successful title bid last season, and I head into this new challenge determined to keep up that momentum.

“It will be my first season of racing on the tracks of continental Europe, but my clear aim is to fight for another championship. I would like to thank Double R for keeping me on and my backers for their continued support. Let’s bring home some more silverware!”

Double R will use HWA engines this year, and has signed Lundqvist alongside Red Bull junior Jack Doohan. A third driver is also expected to be hired..

“Everyone at the team is ecstatic that Linus will be a Double R driver again this year,” said team principal Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt.

“We’ve achieved so much together over the past couple of seasons, culminating in winning British F3 last year, so it’s going to be great to continue that partnership together into Euroformula Open. He’s a fantastic driver, bags of commitment and ability, and I’ve got every confidence he will be one of the frontrunners from the first round."
