GT Sport today announced an update with regard to the 2020 season calendar of the Euroformula Open following the latest developments on the Covid-19 pandemic effects and the progressive easing of restrictions all over Europe.
GT Sport today has confirmed 8 events for the 2020 season and is working to find a workable date for the ninth, at Pergusa. Should this not be possible, the season would run on 8 events and, in order to ensure the 18 races originally foreseen, a third race would be held in two of the confirmed events.
The round at the Hockenheimring and the GP de Pau will not be held this year. Instead, the 2020 Euroformula Open will include rounds at Mugello on 2-4 October, in the framework of the ACI Sport-promoted event, and at Jarama on 6-8 November.
GT Sport is currently working with all concerned circuits and their national authorities to establish the protocols that will allow holding the events in conditions safe for all and ensure traveling to the events. Teams and all involved partners will be informed in due course.
Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport:
“As the situation resulting from the Covid-19 crisis evolves towards a progressive return to almost normal life, we are taking steps to ensure that we have a smooth, practical and attractive 2020 season. We are today confirming an 8-events calendar, which means dropping one from the initial nine scheduled. Given the current circumstances, this is a practical approach that everybody will appreciate. We confirm also that we will run the 18 races programmed, hence including a third race in two of the events.
I want to thank ACI Sport for making it possible to have a Euroformula round at one of their events, in such a superb and challenging track as Mugello, and we are happy to bring back international formula racing to another landmark track as Jarama, which has been recently renovated and is sort of home track for us. We definitely look forward to returning to Pau and the Hockenheimring next year, and thank them both for their efforts in trying to find a solution for this year, which unfortunately was not possible.
We are now focusing our efforts to work with circuits and relevant national authorities in order to ensure safe and smooth events for everybody.”
