GT Sport today announced a final date change for the 2020 season-opening event at the Hungaroring of its three series (International GT Open, Euroformula Open and GT Cup Open Europe), which is now scheduled for the 6-9 August, instead of 23-26 July, as announced last week.
The change has been decided to optimize the race programme and allow the event to take place at a period where intra-EU and international travel is expected to be easier, under the evolving lifting of restrictions due to the Covid-19 situation.
Besides, GT Sport today confirmed that the Euroformula round at Pergusa has been postponed to 2021, as a workable date could not be found in the revised 2020 calendar and the track, located in a natural reserve, has a 1st November yearly closure date. We look forward to continuing working with Pergusa to have an exciting Gran Premio del Mediterraneo in 2021, with spectators and side events, as sought by all parties involved.
Very shortly will be confirmed in which two of the confirmed rounds will be held a third race, to compensate the two not taking place at Pergusa and ensure the 18 races originally scheduled for the season.
GT Sport thanks its teams, drivers and all stakeholders for their understanding, as we strive to offer them the best racing calendar and conditions possible under the exceptional circumstances of 2020.
