Cem Bölükbaşı to make Euroformula debut with VAR at Hungaroring

There will be an exciting addition to the Euroformula grid from the Esports world at next week’s Hungaroring round, as Cem Bölükbaşı joins Van Amersfoort Racing.

The Turk is best known for racing for Toro Rosso in the official Formula 1 Esports Series, but in recent years has established his name on the real-world race tracks as well and starred in the GT4 European Series in 2020.

His single-seater racing experience includes a Formula Renault Eurocup appearance in 2019, and a Formula 3 campaign in the United Arab Emirates at the start of this year which featured a best finish of fifth.

“Besides virtually, the Hungaroring is unknown territory to me," said Bölükbaşı"I have spent a lot of time preparing in the simulator at Van Amersfoort Racing and even though realistic, I can’t wait to hit the track next weekend. I have spent non-stop time at VAR to prepare for Hungary. I’m learning and using the team’s knowledge in every way I can and I feel they’re as excited as I am to get going!”

VAR's CEO Rob Niessink added: “Cem embodies a new generation of racing drivers who have it in them to successfully translate virtual racing into 'the real thing'. It’s a movement that, if asked a few years ago, would be considered practically impossible. It shows however how realistic the modern simulation technology is nowadays and how it can truly contribute to real-life racing. Clearly Cem has race talent, this he proofed in races he participated in so far. The team is excited to support him in his extra-ordinary journey and we all look forward to see him perform at the Hungaroring.”

It brings VAR's line-up up to three cars, and podium finishers Casper Stevenson and Rafael Villagomez are looking forward to having a new team-mate when they return to action.
