Daniëlle Geel becomes Van Amersfoort Racing's team manager for 2022

Van Amersfoort Racing’s Euroformula operation will be led by Daniëlle Geel in 2022, taking on the role of team manager.

The Dutch racer, who came fifth in the Benelux region’s Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup this year with six overall podiums, is also a TEDx speaker and has been part of VAR for several years. She rose up to the role of managerial assistant, and was trackside at all rounds in 2021 as team organiser while also being the social media administrator.

Now she takes on the top Euroformula job in the team, and will lead VAR into its third campaign in the series with the lightweight, halo-shod Dallara 320.

"Hard work pays off - I am really excited to announce that I will become the Team Manager of the Euroformula Open team at Van Amersfoort Racing," said Geel. "I look forward to this next step in my career and cannot thank Frits [van Amersfoort] and Rob [Niessink] enough for their trust in me. It also feels even more special to be the first female team manager within Van Amersfoort Racing. I can’t wait to start this new adventure in 2022. I want to wish you a happy new year, may all your goals and dreams come true!"

During 2021 the team won four races, two each for Cem Bölükbaşi and Casper Stevenson, who also conquered the Rookie Trophy and also ran Rafael Villagomez to five podiums. In the Formula 1-supporting season opener its third car was driven by Andreas Estner, who had claimed six podiums for VAR in its maiden Euroformula season.

We had two wins, took the Rookie Trophy, we had a successful season, we had a strong team around so I hope we can continue this success into next year, and then fight for the championship,” Geel said of 2021, and picked out Monza race two as a highlight.

“We were really dominant in the second race. One-two, then we got three seconds off from P3, so that was really a highlight. Also of course in Hungary, our first race with Cem, and we won. And then at Barcelona of course, from pole position to race win. All three drivers developed very well. We were really surprised by Cem. He just stepped in in the fourth round, and then he immediately steps up so high and he had really strong pace all year long. The whole team was really, really happy, and also with Rafael. In the third race he came second in the rain. I think all three drivers made a big progression this year. We are really proud of them.”
