Brilliant maiden win for Bryce Aron (Motopark) in Race 2 at Spa

28.05.2023

Bryce Aron brilliantly took his maiden Euroformula Open win this morning at Spa-Francorchamps. The  American driver of Motopark put a faultless performance throughout a Race 2 full of duels. He first had to battle with Francesco Simonazzi (BVM Racing) with whom he exchanged the lead several times before having to keep at bay Noel León in the closing laps. “It was a tough, exciting race, with a lot of fighting”, said Aron, “but I managed to keep cool, focusing on what I had to do, keeping my points and the line.”

Jakob Bergmeister is on pole in the reversed grid ahead of Simonazzi, Mason, Aron, Shields and Leon, but at the start it’s Simonazzi taking the lead, ahead of Aron, Mason, Shields and Leon. In lap 2, at combes, Shields is forced out of the track by an overtake attempt of León, and at the end of the lap, Brajnik overtakes Netusil with a brilliant dive at La Source.

In lap 3, Aron passes Simonazzi at Combes and takes the lead, but one lap later, at the same spot, the Italian takes back P1. By now, Leon is third, closing on Aron and ahead of Mason, Shields and Bergmeister.  In lap 6, Aron manages again to overtake Simonazzi for the lead at Combes, with the Italian, lacking some top speed, soon forced to defend from Leon, who succeeds one lap later.

In the final laps, the attention is all for the charge of León, who reduces the gap down to 0.4 seconds but Aron reacts and perfectly holds the fort up to the chequered flag. Simonazzi is third, ahead of Shields and Mason, while Bergmeister takes the Rookie win and Brajnik is first in the Gold Cup.
