Francesco Simonazzi took his second win of the season, after conquering Race 2 at Hockenheim, at the end of a very hot afternoon. The Italian of BVM Racing responded so to Brad Benavides’ win in Race 1, keeping the duel at the top of the standings perfectly balanced. The American of Motopark finished second ahead of his teammate and German young star Jakob Bergmeister.
Francesco Simonazzi commented: “It was an exhausting day, with two races and the heat. It all went well, a little bit like in Portimão. I managed to build some margin in the first part and then I tried to manage that, but never got to be seriously threatened. I think we all were pretty tired by then…”
Simonazzi is in pole position in the reversed grid and has at his side Jakob Bergmeister. The order is respected at the start, with Shin in third ahead of Benavides, Révész, Barrichello and Brajnik. After a couple of laps, Benavides takes second and starts chasing Simonazzi who had built a small gap, while the battle for fourth is intense between Révész, Shin and Barrichello with constant overtaking attempts. The Hungarian will later get a 2-second penalty for track limits, as will Brajnik.
Things will not change up to the flag despite the gaps between Simonazzi, Benavides and Bergmeister getting smaller and smaller. The Italian though keeps everything under control, securing his second win of the season.
