GT Sport presented today to the Euroformula Open teams and the racing community gathered at Circuit Paul Ricard the new Euroformula car and engine for 2025 and the seasons ahead.
The Euroformula Open will be racing with the new Dallara 324 and the TOM's TGE33 engine, which together with the Pirelli tyres, will constitute a very exciting racing package at a competitive budget.
The Dallara 324 is the natural heir to the 320 currently in use in the Euroformula Open and includes aero and safety developments, which are expected to represent on average a 2-second per lap advantage. The car’s weight has increased only marginally, up to 509 kgs (incl. 3 liters of liquids), ensuring that the racing characteristics and drivability which have made the 320 the most acclaimed car in its category, remain unchanged.
An update kit has been developed by Dallara to allow the current Dallara 320s to be upgraded and to participate in the series.
The plan foresees that ten units of the new 324 and twelve upgraded 320s will be delivered ahead of the start of the championship in 2025. A financing scheme over three years for teams acquiring the new Dallara 324 will be in place.
The TOM's TGE33 engine is a turbocharged 1.6 3-cylinder prepared for racing by Tom’s which delivers an output of 275 hp. It will use Cosworth electronics and be coupled to a Hewland gearbox. Being based on a stock car engine, the running costs of the new powertrain will be significantly lower.
The Dallara 324 will open the fourth car cycle in the history of the continental championship by GT Sport, which took off in 2009 as the Euro F.3 Open with the Dallara F308 and became the Euroformula Open in 2014, using the F312 and F317 before the current 320 was introduced in 2020.
The new package including the TOM's engine will also mark the reviving of a long and fruitful cooperation, as Toyota engines equipped the GT Sport single-seater formula since the inception of the Spanish F.3 Championship in 2001 up to 2020.
The 2025 calendar of the Euroformula Open, which was unveiled a few days ago, includes as usual 8 rounds on some of the top F.1 tracks across Europe.
Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport, stated: “We are particularly happy to start a new chapter in the history of the Euroformula Open. As known, we have been through a couple of difficult seasons, due to a number of reasons having to do with market conditions and production issues. But we have never ceased to believe in our formula. GT Sport has been involved in single-seater formulae since 2001, with the Spanish F.3 Championship, and we are proud of what we have achieved.
The project based on the Dallara F324 and the TOM's engine has been maturing for a couple of years and crystalizes now, after a successful introduction in the Superformula Lights in Japan.
We are convinced that the new package is very attractive, both from a racing and budget point of view and having at our side top partners such as Dallara, Tom’s, Cosworth, and Pirelli as the official tyre supplier, is a strong plus. Once again, the 2025 Euroformula Open will ring contenders to some of the greatest F.1 tracks, and all in all, we look ahead with great confidence.”
