Nielsen Racing joins the Euroformula Open and announces Edward Pearson as one of its three drivers

19.03.2025

A new top team is joining the Euroformula Open as from this season: after a decade of success in prototype racing, Nielsen Racing today has announced it is expanding into single-seaters by joining the Euroformula Open championship for the 2025 season. The Corby-based team will field three new Tom’s-powered Dallara 324 cars, marking a new chapter in its motorsport journey.

In a release, Nielsen Racing explained its choice: “The Euroformula Open is an established Formula 3-level championship known for providing a competitive environment for rising stars in motorsport. The series has a strong track record of developing drivers who go on to compete in top single-seater and endurance racing events. With a calendar that includes some of Europe’s most iconic FIA Grade 1 circuits, it’s the ideal platform for Nielsen Racing to make its move into F3 and for our young drivers to showcase their talent.

Building on its strong foundation in Radicals, LMP3 and LMP2, Nielsen Racing recognizes the growing connection between F3 competition and prototype racing. The introduction of the new Dallara 324 for 2025 presents an excellent opportunity to enter Euroformula Open at a pivotal moment. This move allows Nielsen to establish itself in single-seaters while maintaining its commitment to endurance racing, creating a clear pathway for drivers looking to transition from F3 to sports car racing and ACO prototype competition. By competing in both disciplines, Nielsen Racing aims to develop the next generation of racing talent, helping drivers seamlessly progress from Formula 3 to endurance racing at the highest level.”

Team Principal Sven Thompson further commented: "We’re delighted to expand into single-seaters with Euroformula Open. Our goal is to establish ourselves quickly and build on our success in endurance racing. The series holds special significance for me personally, as I worked as a mechanic in Euroformula Open before founding Nielsen Racing. Returning now as a competing team is an exciting milestone. We’re committed to providing young drivers with a strong development platform, and with our experience in prototypes, we’re confident we can build a competitive team and make an impact in the championship."

The first of the three Nielsen Racing drivers to be announced is Edward Pearson. The 17-year-old Brit joins from British F.3 and F.4 and made his debut in the Euroformula last year, contesting two rounds at the end of the season and taking three podium finishes.

Pearson commented: “I can’t wait to work join forces with Nielsen Racing this season for my first full year in EuroFormula Open after the successful outings in the series last year. Going into a new era for the series, it is exciting to have the opportunity to work alongside such a well-respected team, and I can’t wait to get started. This is a deal that really would not be possible without the support of all my partners, and there is no doubt that I go into 2025 looking to try and fight for the top step of the podium from the very start.”

The other two drivers will be announced shortly and the team will take part to the series’ Winter Test in Barcelona next week.
