Second win in the same day for Yevan David (Motopark) in shortened Race 3

27.04.2025

Yevan David rounded a perfect Sunday at Portimão by taking victory also in Race 3 this afternoon after winning Race 2 earlier in the day. The Sri Lankan of Team Motopark leaves Portugal as the provisional leader in the overall standings, with a ten-point advantage over his teammate Michael Shin g-from South Korea, who took second in the race that close the weekend.

The podium was completed by Tymek Kucharczyk, the Polish driver of BVM Racing, who finally had a trouble-free start and could express his great talent.

Still, the race was not free from drama. The stalling syndrome at the start this time hit Nielsen Racing’s Shawn Rashid and Ed Pearson, the winner of Race 1, who was sitting in the fourth spot on the reversed grid. Ahead of him were Motopark’s Joss Garfias, Michael Shin and Diego de la Torre. The first two fought hard for the initial lead, although by the end of lap 2, it is David (who started from fifth) to take command and not leave it. Shin and Garfias were following and were soon joined by a charging Kucharczyk, who would take third in lap 5, with Garfias, de la Torre and Ryabov behind the Pole.

The battle between the first three contenders, all within 4 seconds, promised to be exciting, but a strange double incident changed the course of things. In lap 10, the fire extinguisher in the car of de la Torre blew, with the Mexican forced to leave its car in the straight. The safety car had to intervene, but two laps later, at the restart, Fernando Barrichello suffered the same hiccup, also in the straight, and given the little race time left, the race was red-flagged and not resumed.
