GT Sport confirms Euroformula Open’s 2019 calendar and changes

31.08.2018

The series to offer at least 7 GP tracks and three different engines

In a meeting with Euroformula team and drivers held today at Silverstone, Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport, presented the outline of the revamped Euroformula Open for 2019-20, and the main changes that will be introduced next year. 2019 will mark the 14th edition of the Formula 3-based series by GT Sport.

The Dallara F312 will continue to be the single chassis for the competition, but the series will be open also to current Volkswagen and Mercedes engines, alongside the Toyota-based used by the Euroformula Open, becoming a very attractive choice for any team having any of those packages.

With the exception of F.1, the Euroformula Open will be the only single-seater formula allowing for three different engines.

A Balance of Performance will ensure the harmonization of performance, both in terms of power and torque. GT Sport technical staff is working actively with the concerned engine tuners (Spiess, HWA and Piedrafita) to that end, and track tests have been scheduled around the forthcoming Jerez and Barcelona events of the Euroformula Open, as well as during the winter.

The 2019 Euroformula Open will run along its usual format of eight two-race events, all on top-tier F.1-graded circuits. Hockenheim has become the latest addition to the list, with the date and venue of the 8th round to be confirmed shortly.

Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport, commented: “We are glad to be the first F.3-based series to announce its calendar and plans for 2019. We have been working for a while on this project and are very encouraged by the warm support received by F.3 contenders and by F.3 engine tuners. The new landscape for F.3 racing that is shaping up for the years ahead provides us with an excellent opportunity to offer teams and drivers the best option for a continental top-level F.3 series in Europe.”
